August is in fact the month I chose for my own wedding – this can be a personal preference, but there are a few reasonw why winter weddings in south africa are becoming more popular.
1. The colour palette
We got married on a farm so the hay bales and veld grass look absolutely beautiful this time of year. The bushveld feel definitely translates well . This is a personal preference , but my theme was wheat and red wine. So we had a background of wheat coloured fields and bridesmaids and bouquets in burgundy. The warm colours suit the season well.
2. The cost
Weddings are generally much cheaper over the winter period because the season is less popular and demand is less. This goes across the board from venues to photographers . The only thing that may be more expensive are the flowers as they may be out of season but it depends on what you choose .
Here are some of the winter weddings from this year for inspiration.
Annelie and Ruan were married in Limpopo – the bushveld scenery perfectly suited the season and was not too hot as it can be in summer.
Denisha and Louis – were married at Morrells Boutique venue in Northcliff. This venue actually uses a lot of evergreen so the couple were still able to have greens and pastel colours in a winter wedding.
Jaco and Marizelle : Used colours that suit a winter wedding theme and are complimented by the surrounds at Makiti wedding venue in Muldersdrift.
